Pain centered in lower left side of back going down left leg

I have had surgery before in 96 on my L4&L5 discs that was a cause of military service but could not prove that. Anyway, prior to surgery a local chiropractor fixd me well enough to go white water rafting and i thought i was ok. Several monthls later i encurred horrible pain and Walter Reed Hospital took an MRI and said my L4&L5 were bad but did not operate. Several years later after excrutiating pain i went to a civilian doctor who operated on my (1996) I went back to my normal routine of exercise, cutting trees and stuff like that with only occassional back pain. when i did overexerte myself i took a cold bath for as long as i could stand it and then immediately followed with a hot one. Seems to work. Anyway, this year in May 03, I was helping my son move and pickd up a heavy box. I immediately felt the left side go to hell and pain in my left leg. I had to drive back 600 miles like that.

That was 4 weeks ago and i have cut my exercise regimen down to walking on a treadmill and no crunches or lifting weights as i had been doing. Thepain is the same but I also feel tightness radiating in the back portion of my waist. I am considering whether to go back to my chiro or should i see my Nuero Surgeon.
