A newbie - broken heels

I endured broken heels in a car accident that I remember nothing about. I was in and out of it until I finally woke up on my own on Saturday. I was delirious since they restrainted my wrists so I would not pull out the tube inserted down my throat. I am deaf so, evidently, I use my hands to sign and to have them held down was beyond imagination for me.

I am home now for 2 and a half hours after enduring a week-long stay at George Washington University Hospital. THeir staff were excellent, except for a few; knew their stuff and really took care of me while I was trying to recover enough to go home.

My question now remains... I am told I was operated on the night of my accident and my left heel is fractured in one place, while my right heel is broken in 15 places. said it was just chips and dips here and there. I am not sure exactly what to believe. Nevertheless, like you guys out there... the pain is mind boggling and I am downing perocet every four hours to keep the pain manageable.

NOw that I am home and awaitin my first follow up with a HMO physician and a orthopedic doctor who specializes in sports medicine. HUrrah for me because i have a very active life with camping, hikig, rockclimbing, walking, etc. I am hoping that this doctor will be of a great help. However, am hoping you guys with experience woudld help me with experiences you have had with recovering. I read somewhere that swimming was great. I believe that. ANything else I can do on my own for now until I get a GO to put weights on my ankles, which won't be for another 3 months.

Any joint medication I should be taking as well as the painkillers? What about the ones with gulcosamine? liver cod oil?

Brothers and sisters, know that you have a newbie among you now.
