Unorthodox perhaps, but.... |
|
I am an occupational therapist, not currently working in the re-hab setting. My question concerns my older dog. He has substantial fatty tumor growth behind and under both shoulders. Surgical removal was completed about 18 months ago, but fatty regrowth has recurred bilaterally. Because of the position of the tumors, my dog's shoulders are increasingly forced forward and he has the appearance of being 'pigeoned-toed'. More recently it appears that his weight bearing has shifted and his ankles are bowing laterally. It actually looks at times as though his leg is curved! I was considering the possibility of creating a short splint that might provide support to the joint and keep it in better alighnment. I feel that the angle of his ankles will soon become a deformity and debilitating. Any ideas? |
