I have no idea

I'm not sure what is going on with my back, but the symptom I'm about to described has been with me for longer than I can remember.

37 y.o. Male
265 lbs.
Fractured T12 & T11 in water skiing accident when 18.
Have bulging (herniated disk) by L3 that is situated more on the right side of my body towards the inside.
I've been diagnosed with degenerative joint desease.

Anyway, what is really irritating is that my back muscles on the left side of my body that sit right next to the spine feel like they are always pulling me towards the left for some reason. When stretching and leaning to the right I can actually feel popping, cracking noise sometimes. The irriating part is that because my muscle on the left side of my spine is always pulling to the left this muscle is stronger than the one on the right and often gets pulled because of always pulling to the left.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?
Any exercises I can do to strengthen muscles on the right side of my spine?

The Simply Stable HXt hyperextension elbow brace is designed to stabilize the elbow by helping to control extension and rotation. Stabilization is accomplished through a unique design that incorporates dual polycentric hinges into a functional Neoprene sleeve.
