Sprain or slight fiber tear Achilles

My son is a high school basketball player. He came down
and felt pain in his heel. His general dr. diaganoised
a slight Fiber tear at the base of the Achilles. Xrays
showed no fracture. Suggested ice, rest for a few days
and PT therapy. The PT concurred the Diagnosis, said he
could start to use it as he felt better. Tried to practice.run a little over the weekend with no real problems, until 36 hours later when he said his foot/heel felt sore. within 48 hours it was back to
state just after the injury? What course should we
pursue since he really wants to get back to playing.?
