edema healing

I recently had Morton nueroma removed from my right foot and the pain in my foot diminished greatly, but my podiatrist mentioned I could have an Edema in that area as it heals. Sure enough, well at least I think I have one, it is tender all the time, the compression sock helps greatly, especially when I wear a shoe, but only for a short time, for it cuts off my circulation and starts to throb. I also elavate it and massage it, which is what my Podiarist said would get rid of it. What I am wondering is this a long term ordeal and is there anything I can do other than what I am doing and taking pain medication. It has only been a few weeks since the surgery, what is the estimated time for recovery. Is the pain I am feeling a edema or is it the incision that has not healed. To tell you the truth , I would rather have the Nueroma than this pain. Any help, please. Thanks
