Achillies tendon

My husband has torn his achillies tendon and has his leg in plaster to the top of his leg. He stays in the plaster cast for three weeks. Then he has to have a ski boot with first three wedges going down to no wedges at all. He has the wedges reduced every 2 weeks. Can he fly with the ski boot and does he walk on the foot with the wedges in. I would think that he does to get the benefit, but we were not told anything about this at the hospital. He was told not to put any weight on the foot for the next three weeks(not that he could anyway.)
