heel and ball of foot pain

I'm in my early 50s and in th last couple of years I've started haveing pain ,when standing, at the heel and ball of my feet. Left is worse than right. It's extreme when walking bare foot.
Today I went to a store called 'good feet'. They had a 3 step program which included a morning shoe insert and mid day insert and an evening insert. total package...$800.
I see all kinds of inserts on the net but don't know which is best for me. I liked 'good feets' product but I think they are ripping me off on the cost.

Tuli's Double-Ribbed Pro heel cups are the most advancesd shock absorbing heel cups available today. The primary force of the heel strike is absorbed by the larger and higher waffle pattern while the lower and denser waffle pattern absorbs the high pressure and final force spike of heel strike. Perfect for sports activities.
