Wife's numbness of Left big toe

My wife has been complaining of numbness of her left big toe from yesterday (2nd day today). She's 56 years old. Does she have to immediately consult an orthopedic doctor or should we wait for a few more days to see whether it disappears or worsens? Thanks.
