Re: Sore heel
: Recently I have noticed pain in my left heel. This seems more prevalent after laying down for a while. The pain is either on the bottom of the heel or slightly in front of it. It feels like bruising but there is nothing visible. I'm wondering if its just a bad pair of shoes. This pain is sometimes constant and then at other times it goes away after walking for a while. My right heel is fine.If you need more information please ask. Thanks for your help in advance.

Gilbert: I had exactly the symptoms you described. I am diabetic and so thought it was related to that, but it turns out it is not. My medical caregiver called it the "common and miserable" condition of plantar fasciitis. It has to do with the connection in the heel area between the achilles tendon and the tendons that go up towards the toes. She prescribed stretches, like the stretches you should do before running, 2X a day, 5 times per side, holding the stretch for 30 seconds on a straight back knee, and 30 seconds on a buckled back knee. Also told me never to go barefoot; wear air cushioned tennies, and gave me some cushy inserts for my other shoes that are designed for "heel spurs." When it gets really bad, ice and ibuprofen. No cure, only treatment. I've just had this diagnosed this week, and that's how I saw your post, after I decided to go on the internet and look for more info on "Plantar Fasciitis." Good luck!
