mortons nueroma surgery

I am due to have surgery for a mild nueroma but people on this website seem to have had bad expereiences with surgery/recurrance of symptoms later. Has anyone had a good experience/would anyone advice against surgery. I am worried if I don't go ahead with it now the condition will become much worse and I will be unable to walk at all as has happened on 2 days this year. I am hoping to resume sport after surgery but am worried this will not be possible based on comments from other people.
