There seem to be a legion of causes for neurothapy. My girlfriend has been experiencing substantial pain in her feet and parts of her legs. This seems to be in response to a long term low-level treatment for rheumatoid arthritis with an antibiotic called minocycline. This is related to a condition called minocycline induced lupus. She has tried several anti-depressants prescribed for neuropathy in case this ISN"T the cause, but those were totally ineffective. The treatment for her has been to wait it out. It is been ongoing since nov 29th and the pain ranges from 2-8 on the pain scale. But it is getting better, being generally lower on the average. Today, she is experiencing almost no pain for the first day since November 29th. The minocycline induced neuropathy has been very slow to be discovered because of the long delay between cessation of the drug and the ending of symptoms. Look for things in your life that are outside of "the norm". This could be also caused by either a lack of thiamine in your diet ( rare in the U.S.) or a genetic inability to absorb thiamine in your digestive process, also very rare. But the thing is, you can't discount something because it is rare. Doctors tend to do this, because mostly, medicine is a "numbers game" in which as a doctor you have to go with the most likely diagnosis first. |
