I broke the 1st thru 4th metatarsal bones on Feb 17, 08. It has been a long process. I am unable to walk, even after 11 weeks of rest, 2 casts, a boot...The dr has decided that surgery is my only option to walk again. I have to have the 1st and 2nd fused...the 3rd and 4th have seemed to heal on their own. He said it will be 4 months before I can bare any weight and 6 months before I take my 1st steps. Whew...this isn't fun at all. Is this always a long healing process? Or is my age of 56 part of the problem. I have osteperosis and arthritis is all over the 1st metatarsal joint. He told me at the time of the fractures that my break was if I had been in a severe car accident. All I did was was on my foot. I also have a good size chip out of the 2nd metatarsal bone. I have never taken this long to heal....and not being able to walk has been a major issue. I am a free spirit and this injury has really stoppped me in my path. I just want to walk again........
