foot tingle problem

Hi,

I've been having a tinlging, itchy sensation that runs in a line down the outside of my left foot from near the ankle bone to the sole of my foot. It is only in this place and does not radiate down my leg. This has been waking me at night for the past 5 months. Prescription topical creams to numb/stop itch have not worked! If my feet are cold, I don't feel it. I have a history of sciatic nerve irritation and a slightly herniated disk above L5 vertebrae.

Does this sound like a nerve problem? What kind of doctor should I see? Neurologist? Orthopedist?
