Stress Fractures, Shin Splints

I have a few questions actually...
I have an athlete who has a stress fracture in her ankle she has not participated for the last three weeks and according to her it doesnt hurt. Her doctor told her to wait a few more weeks, she is going to start doing aquatic therapy, if her ankle is taped do you think it will be ok for her to run, or is it to risky.
Question #2 Shin Splints, other then icing and elevating what are some other things that can be done, and is wrapping them worth it??
