medial miniscus

I recently fell during a ski trip and the ER doctors suspect a torn medial miniscus. Unforntuatly I can not get into see the Primary Care Physicians until April and get the acutal diagnoses. The knee (a week after the incident) is still swollen and bruised and hurts when I walk on it for long periods of time without the aid of crutches. I was wondering if there is anything that would help heal the medial miniscus or at least make it quit hurting and prevent further damage until I can see the doctor. Also if it is the actual medial miniscus that is torn what are the general treatments? Thanks a lot.
