sternum bruise, or fracture?

I am a 56 yr. old female. Two days ago, while standing on a chair to reach a ceiling fan, I fell off the chair, onto the floor. However, somehow the top of the chair flew up and caught me on my way down, and got me right in the sternum, under the left breast. The pain knocked the air out of me, I became nauseas and my hands went numb. I have had a difficult time getting around. Should I see my family doctor?
