bruised sternum healing time

My sternum became bruised in October due to a blow to my chest from a 3" mallet head that was thrown on a concrete floor and richoted into my chest. I was told by the doctore, after three series of x-rays that it would heal in 6-8 weeks--but it is now May and I am still experiencing intermittent pain and discomfort.
